The Phoenix of hard times

After the atomic bomb explosion and the disaster of second world war, Japan proved to be a phoenix; within thirty years it became a developed nation and exemplified hard work. The catastrophe caused by tsunami, proved to be worse than the previous tragedy. The country which was emulated by nations is facing a havoc which astonished whole world. Let us pray hard that the great nation soar high as a phoenix again and prove that nothing is impossible even when the harsh forces of nature are against you.

Guzaarish- a gift to Indian cinema

It is an astonishing fact that the Indian audience did not accept Sanjay Leela Bansali’s film Guzaarish. The movie is exemplary for its cinematography, star cast and contemporary story line. It highlights the topic of Euthanasia. The sufferings of a person in vegetable state is well depicted. The viewers realize the sufferings of such a paralised person.
I think such movies should be awarded by acceptance and not by granting filmfare only. Hats off to Bansali for gifting Indian cinema with such a great movie.

Development is a necessity but displacement is cruelty.

Today Vallarpadam International Container Trans-shipment Terminal was inaugurated by the Prime-Minister of India. Behind every development there lies displacement. In India since independence around 40 million people have got displaced due to developmental projects. Project affected persons are evicted using a colonial archaic law 'Land Acquisition Act, 1894'. Affected persons are evicted from their homestead without providing adequate monetary compensation and leaving them to fend for themselves as all their social ties are broken, their lifetime savings are destroyed, they are marginalized and ostracized.
Therefore the Indian legislature should enact a legislation which provides rehabilitation of project affected persons with adequate monetary compensation and also considering the social aspects of displacement. Their human rights should not be violated. Their lives should not become a sacrifice without any quid pro quo. Development is a necessity but displacement is cruelty.
